Of course, what follows isn’t about Flash Gordon, the Queen single of 1980, or the movie for which it was written, but it is about Flash Fiction, so the cheesy song lyric pun seemed to fit the bill as a title for the post.

So what exactly is Flash Fiction? Well, according to Wikipedia it is fiction of extreme brevity, ranging from the six word “short short story” famously-but-not-necessarily-reliably attributed to Ernest Hemingway (for sale, baby shoes, never worn) through to 750 word works of “Sudden Fiction”, stopping off at all points along the way. I’m not sure how accurate that description is, but it’ll do as a framework for our own Flash Fiction reading night which we’ll be holding at a meetup soon.

We’re not entirely sure of the reading night date yet, but as far as a deadline for writing goes it would be nice to tie in with National Flash Fiction day on June 24th. It’s not a competition, so no prizes or accolades involved, but we would love new and potential members to feel free to pitch in. Just let us know – either through ‘comments’ here or through our Facebook page on, erm, Facebook – if you would like a reading spot in time for the NFF day deadline.

  1. Holiday calls. Won’t be there. Again.

    In your face, Hemingway.
